Better In Belize is located in a tropical forest on "The Macal", 15-20 minutes south-east of the town of Benque Viejo Del Carmen, in the spectacular Cayo District of Belize, Central America. The land is hilly as it is part of the foothills of the Mayan mountain range. The headwaters of the Macal River originate in the Maya Mountains and flow down past Better In Belize to the town of San Ignacio. In San Ignacio, the Macal River and Mopan River converge to form the Belize River that flows into Belize City and empties into the Caribbean.

Eco-community Better In Belize
With its superb location on the banks of "The Macal", Better In Belize is located downriver from the Mollejon Dam and upriver from the Vaca Dam site. The western boundary of the property is situated along Hydro Road while the eastern boundary of the property is situated along the Macal River.
The entrance to the site is from Hydro Road and is approximately 10.5 miles from the charming village of Benque Viejo Del Carmen.
Better in Belize is located approximately 20-25 minutes from San Ignacio, Cayo's capital city.
The area is a tropical rainforest paradise. Across the river from Better In Belize is the Pine Ridge Mountain Reserve and on the other side of our eco community is the Vaca Forest reserve. The views from any vantage point in the community show pristine rainforest.
Close to our development, along Hydro Road to Benque, is the Che Chem Ha Cave. This traditional Mayan ceremonial cave has more artifacts in it than any of the other ceremonial caves in Belize. It is a mere 5-minute drive up the road from our eco community.

Driving Directions to BETTER IN BELIZE From San Ignacio
San Ignacio through Benque Viejo Del Carmen to Better in Belize, Cayo
In San Ignacio you turn right just before the police station (which is on the right) and the police
station is just before the high bridge. You drive up the steep hill after you turn; shortly you will see the San Ignacio Hotel and Princess Casino, both on your left.
Just keep on driving, a couple of speed bumps, maybe three and you will end up driving into the country. Keep on going on the Western Highway until you reach the small village of Succotz and you will see the river on your right. There are 5 speed bumps in Succotz.
You will see the little market in Succotz on the right with little gifts to buy; this is where the ferry takes you and your car to Xunantunich a very popular Mayan site.
Keep driving straight and you will arrive at Benque Viejo del Carmen, the paved road curves to the left or you can drive straight into Benque. You take the left curve on the paved road and then the road will curve to the right shortly, there is a big speed bump (good veggie stand on your right) and then you will find the road has a median in the middle of it.
Now you look for Long Lucky’s super store on the left. This is where you turn left. Decent place to pick up food, there is also a little vegetable stand beside Long Lucky’s and a cheap Chinese Restaurant.
Look at your odometer, Better in Belize is ten miles straight up this road. Well the road curves and bends and dips and hills, but we are there, do not turn off this road.
We will be on the left. It is gravel, so take your time, depending on the time of the year and when it has been scraped, it could be rough. This part could be 30 minutes. This road ends at the second dam and if you get there we are a quarter of a mile back on the left.
